Clémence's Confessions

Let's start at the beginning—tell us a bit about yourself and your journey with Cointreau so far.

My name is Clemence Gallet and I’m the Executive Director of Cointreau. I arrived at Cointreau one year ago in 2023, ready to embrace this incredible brand. I brought my own perspective and experience, and I’m quite pleased with what we have accomplished together!

What's your job? Can you describe your daily routine in a few words?

As the Executive Director, my days are filled with exciting opportunities: brainstorming innovative campaigns, working on exciting projects, attending events, collaborating with passionate consumers and bartenders, developing innovations to meet new consumer needs or ways of consumption, and ensuring that Cointreau remains a beloved icon, enjoyed around the globe! My job is to continue the legacy of this incredible brand, seeking new ways to share it with the world, and to nurture the amazing talents of the Cointreau team, AKA Team Orange. 🍊

What made you want to work with Cointreau specifically?

What impressed me the most about Cointreau is that it’s an iconic brand, with a very rich heritage of savoir-faire. At the same time, it’s a brand that pushes the boundaries of cocktail culture for contemporary times. Its personality – fun, audacious and daring – is very inspiring to me as well.

What’s one memorable experience you’ve had while working with Cointreau?

In only 1 year, I already have my head full of memories. I particularly remember the first time I visited the distillery and its famous “salle des alambics,” or the distillation room. The potent smell of orange will stay with me forever.

Three other highlights would be: the 2024 Margarita Challenge finale in Angers; the launch of our latest innovation, Citrus Series in Corsica and attending the World's 50 Best Bar awards ceremony. Actually, I think that spending time with top bartenders, who really love and appreciate the brand, can make any experience memorable.

How did you first discover Cointreau, and what was your first impression of it?

I discovered Cointreau a long time ago, like many French people. It’s a brand I knew from my family home. Since starting at Cointreau, I have had the chance to discover that it is much more than in my memories. It is iconic and deeply anchored in the culture of mixology.

What makes Cointreau a master of Citrus for you?

It's all about that perfect balance we strike between sweet and bitter orange peels. Every day, our master distiller Carole Quinton works to reproduce the same quality and organoleptic profile. The orange is at the heart of our product, and like many living species, it is threatened by climate change and disease. Our role is to protect the orange and its environment and to commit to citrus research and R&D programs to preserve it. We've been at it for over 175 years, refining and perfecting. That’s why Cointreau is the go-to for so many classic cocktails.

And speaking of citrus mastery, our new Citrus Series Opus #1 made with the Corsican pomelo single estate is proof of our dedication to exploring the world of citrus in all its glory! We're so fortunate to work with experts like Carole Quinton and our amazing R&D team to make it all happen. As demonstrated with the Citrus Series, Cointreau is setting out to explore more of the citrus family. This constant learning, research and exploration proves that Cointreau is the master of citrus.

How do you use Cointreau to elevate a cocktail?

Cointreau is like the little black dress of cocktails – it elevates absolutely everything! Honestly, it's incredibly versatile. I've found it blends beautifully with all styles of cocktails, from low-ABV creations to elegant classics. And it is fantastic with fresh fruits, whether shaken or frozen. The possibilities are endless, really. Just a touch of Cointreau adds this wonderful depth and complexity to any mix, as well as balance and harmony. It just brings out other flavors in a way that's pure magic!

What is your favorite product of the Cointreau portfolio?

My favorite product is definitely l’Unique. It’s our most iconic profile, a “one and only,” and its recipe has not changed since its creation since 1849

What is your favorite cocktail?

The Frozen Margarita!

If you had to sum up Cointreau in just a few emojis, which ones would you choose?
