A wealthy, fun-loving American socialite named Margaret “Margarita” Sames was hosting one of her notoriously lavish parties and needed a signature cocktail to match. Naturally, she turned to her two favorite spirits: tequila and Cointreau. The drink was a smashing success and “The Drink” fittingly came to be known as the “Margarita.”
